Pickleball from a spouse's perspective

Updated: May 24, 2023

"Tournament Season is about to begin, I need to get ready.", Brooke says as I think to myself, "About to begin?" What on earth is she talking about? It's just 5 months in to 2023 and Brooke brings home her 11th medal of the year! Yeah some of those tournaments she brought home a couple medals, but so far we've traveled from Florida, to New York to Ohio and all over the state of PA.

2023 has been filled with plenty of pickleball and many fun times and some downfalls from a major storm that ripped through most of Western, PA, knocking out power for days, that just had to hit one hour into our first Demo Day of the year. Brooke along with many others put a lot of work into making that day a success. Our whole family was Engaged (no pun intended) and Mother Nature sure didn't want to cooperate. We'll make up for that next week, at Buhl Park for the next Demo Day, so be sure to stop by and say hello and try out Brooke's lineup of Engage paddles!

To say Pickleball is a part of the Peters' household, is definitely an understatement. It's a daily conversation piece, whether it's where the next clinic or lesson is happening, where the next tournament is, or if I'm lucky enough to get invited to the next rec play. People often ask me if I play, and the obvious answer is "Of Course!" I have quite a list of hobbies myself, but I enjoy getting to play the game whenever I can. I would relate myself to a child just learning chopsticks on the piano where-as Brooke is a true Mozart on the court. I enjoy listening to her lessons, or her breakdown of a certain point, as if she's in a masterful game of chess. I'll pitch in a hand dogging balls, if she needs it for a clinic or jump at the chance to help her drill or even help her run the brackets on a tournament she's facilitating. I've learned quite a bit from Brooke about this game and how to execute the proper shot at the proper time.

I'm so proud of everything she has accomplished in her pickleball career and can't wait to see what this sport brings to the future of our family. Apparently, I better get ready for "Tournament Season", because I guess the last 5 months was just a warm up. LOL
